LeShop.ch: Tablets and new modes of withdrawal enliven the market

8.6 million of turnover and more: LeShop.ch reached new heights in 2013

During its jubilee year 2013, LeShop.ch online supermarket has increased its turnover of 8.6 million francs, or 6 percent. The Migros subsidiary has delivered food to 158.1 million francs and thus reaches a new peak. Nearly a third of the orders has been past from a mobile device, one sixth from an iPad. LeShop.ch, the biggest supermarket online of Switzerland, assured its continuous growth in 2013: the Migros subsidiary increased its sales during the four quarters and shows an increase in its turnover to 6% at the end of the year. LeShop.ch has sold during the past year of foodstuffs to 158.1 million francs. 32 percent of orders, or almost a third come from a mobile device. The share of mobile controls is growing in a dazzling way: end 2012, it stood still to 23%, end of 2011 to 11%. Tablets represent about half of the mobile controls, or more than one command in six. Dominique Locher, CEO of LeShop.ch, says: “the tablets and smartphones have brought food to the consumer buying and simplified it and accelerated even further.» It is of same withdrawal DRIVE and RAIL services.”

LeShop.ch extends its services

LeShop.ch will open the second DRIVE location to Staufen (Aargau) in the second half of 2014. Ernst Dieter Berninghaus, Director of the Trade Department at Migros, says: “the continuous development of services is an important step for Migros and LeShop.ch – as a whole. Online complements traditional sales channels of Migros and opens us to long-term additional growth opportunities in a strong competitive retail market.”

Positive Outlook

Dominique Locher sees a great potential of development: “four-fifths of the online food market are still untapped.” LeShop.ch and its competitors realize at present about 250 million francs in turnover annually, this represents about 1% of the total market for food prices in Switzerland. For comparison: in France, the turnover of supermarkets online amounts to about 3.5% of the total market, in England even at more than 5%, the upward trend. According to a study by the Boston Consulting Group, the online food market will continue to grow strongly worldwide: $ 36 billion today to $ 100 billion in 2018. LeShop.ch – results 2013
