In the context of the pandemic crisis, the Municipal Council adopted in August 2020 an ambitious recovery plan for Lausanne culture with CHF 2,500,000. It has helped to offset the negative impacts induced by health constraints, in good complementarity with cantonal and federal support measures.

To date, 562 supports have been granted to cultural actors, while 26 cultural enterprises have been financially supported. This support has helped to save the jobs and know-how of Lausanne’s driving forces in the cultural sector, to stimulate the resumption of cultural life in the Vaud capital and to promote the resumption of economic risks for the cultural industry.

This recovery plan has been slowed down by the successive waves of the pandemic. Some support actions have been delayed and are still planned for the coming months. Support for the cultural industry is only in its first stages, as major events have only been allowed for a few months, in a context that remains uncertain and binding.

The Municipality had created a “COVID-19 Fund in support of culture” to allow the financing of the exceptional support measures of this recovery plan. The fund regulations provided for its dissolution on 31 December 2021. Considering the prolongation of the crisis, the fragility of the cultural sector and a balance available to date of CHF 290,000.-, the Municipality of Lausanne extends its deadline to 31 December 2022.
